WellMed’s Clinical Research Department conducts studies of new medications, as well as studies for investigational uses of currently approved medications. This process helps discover new medical therapies that offer better treatments for life-threatening and/or chronic diseases.

We invite all San Antonio residents to volunteer to participate in these studies. We have found that many are eager to do so. Should you wish to participate in one of these studies, we would like to assure you that patient safety is of the utmost concern to the research department at WellMed.

If you are a WellMed patient, we work closely with your primary care physician to provide you with the best possible medical care. Many of our research patients learn a great deal about their disease and available treatment options.

We have an experienced staff of physicians, Certified Research Coordinators, Trial Coordinators and Assistants to manage our research studies. There is a qualified staff member on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer questions and provide assistance to our research patients. Again, we would like to emphasize that participation is completely voluntary.
